County Clerk Announces Filing Period for 2018 General Primary Election Candidates

URBANA, IL – Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten announced today that the filing period for candidate documents for those seeking nomination or election to offices on the ballot at the March 20, 2018 General Primary Election will begin on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 8 AM at the County Clerk’s office, and extend until 5 PM on Monday, December 4, 2017.

“The filing of nominating petitions and other documents is the first official step that candidates must take to be elected next year,” said Hulten. “Running for office is a serious endeavor and for this election, that process officially begins on Monday.”

Candidates seeking either the Democratic or Republican nomination for offices of County Executive, Clerk, Sheriff, Treasurer, Auditor, or County Board Member may file during the period, as may candidates for election as Democratic or Republican Precinct Committeemen. The nominating Petition, Statement of Candidacy and Loyalty Oath forms, as well as various guides and instructions for filing, are available online at www.champaigncountyclerk.com as well at the office of Champaign County Clerk Gordy Hulten, 1776 E. Washington St., Urbana.

Those candidates in line to file at the County Clerk’s office at 8 AM on Monday, November 27, 2017 will be entered into a lottery to determine ballot position, as will those filing between 4 PM and 5 PM on Monday, December 4, 2017. The ballot position lottery, if necessary, will be conducted in the County Clerk’s office on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10 AM.
