Attorney General to Conduct Training - Freedom of Information and Open Meetings
In cooperation with Champaign County Clerk Mark Shelden, Terry Mutchler of the Illinois Attorney General's office will conduct a training session for local elected officials and interested members of the public regarding the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Meetings Act Mutchler is the Public Access Counselor for the Attorney General, The training will be held May 22, 2007 at 6:00 p.rn. at the Urbana Civic Center. Everyone is invited to attend.
"Each year I answer many questions from the public and elected officials about these two important laws," said Shelden, "This training session will give local officials and the public a venue to get the best information available in the State of Illinois."
Shelden is hoping to get representatives from every government body in the County. His office will send out notices to elected officials and generally inform the public as the event draws nearer. The event has been scheduled after the April 17th elections to allow newly elected officials to start their service with this training.
"Having fully informed and trained elected officials is the first step in ensuring open and
honest government," said Shelden.
